Updating Lord of the Clans

Replayed WarCraft 3 and The Frozen Throne a couple of weeks ago and really got in the mood to update my first campaign Lord of the Clans. The story is well told and the minigames are a nice gimmick but other than that the campaign always felt a bit boring compared to its younger brothers Day of the Dragon and The Last Guardian. Long story short, here are some changes I have worked on so far:

All maps:
- Nicer terrain with more space
- cut some cinematics a bit, made them smoother and better
- Balance improvements
- Faster gameplay with more interesting items
- Bug fixes

Chapter 1:
- Better AI patrol routes

Chapter 2:
- Added optional quest that will give player more units to control

Chapter 3:
- Replaced optional quest with one that offers more combat
- Added clear stealth gameplay to the main quest

Chapter 4:
- New gameplay for starting area. Player has to actively look for enemies

Chapter 6:
- Redesigned Thrall's starting area. Is now a linear path. Less chaos in the beginning
- Better layout for the Tug-of-War area
- Added new optional quest

Chapter 7:
- Complete redesign with a new optional quest and tweaked main quest
- Much better use of space
- Improved enemy AI

Technical stuff:
- Moved all custom objects to the campaign editor. Makes future updates easier
- Replaced foreign music with WoW/WC3 music

Still need to work on Chapter 8 and the Outro. I might add a Hard mode, but haven't decided yet. First I need to see how the campaign feels after all the changes. So far the campaign has over 250 changes/fixes. I hope to be done in 10-20 days. You'll see it a complete change log when the update is released.

Here's a screenshot of the redesigned Chapter 7:

Games I Played 2014

I've been doing these Games I Played for a couple of years now but because I played so many games this year I'll try to keep it short this time. Just a couple of pros and cons. Keep in mind that my %-ratings are merely to compare one game to another and don't reflect the actual quality.

32 - Syberia 1 + 2 - 66%
Lovable story and characters. Outdated gameplay with very long walking distances and no interface help. No showing of hotspots makes it annoying.

31 - The Whispered World - 67% Nice oldschool cartoon look (only 1024x768 resolution), but the protagonist, a clown child with a lack of confidence, was so deppressing I couldn't stand him for more than half an hour at a time.

30 - Burnout Paradise - 66%
Fun racer with some interesting modes. Wrecking other cars was fun. Open world racing events led to orientation problems.

29 - The Darkness 2 - 67%
Using tentacles to throw objects at enemies? Fun! Constantly running out of ammo? Not fun I am also no fan of cel shading graphics but the on-screen violence made up for that.

28 - Sims 3 - 68%
Played a lot of Sims 1 back then and Sims 3 was fun at first but I got rich too quickly and then I married a rich wife. It sucked the fun out of progression and succeeding by myself.

27 - Fable: The Lost Chapters - 69%
Not bad but not too good either. Mainly because it didn't age well. Bad graphics, some bad controls. Combat annoying at times.

26 - Thief - 70% Huge fan of the original games. Very dissapointed with this one. Nice graphics and atmosphere but level design way too linear and story went nowhere.

25 - Broken Sword 1-3 - 71% First two game were very nice. Intriguing story, fun characters. Good enough graphics for game made in 1996/1997. It even showed the hotspots. Unfortunately the third game lost itself in 3D action sequences and too many crate-moving puzzles. Nice story though.

24 - Alice: Madness Returns - 72%
Very nice graphics, very nice atmosphere. Gameplay was all right but it dragged on way too long. The game lacked ideas for its length. Too repetetive.

23 - Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea - 73%
They put way too much effort on making the ending amazing instead of writing some better story during the actual game By the time I reached the ending the game had already lost me. Gameplay was generic except for Part 2: Stealth system was well implemented.

22 - Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) - 73%
Takes the pros of Burnout Paradise (car-wrecking), adds some more weapon types, cop mode and beautiful environments. Unfortunately the carrier mode was really bland. Hoped it had some sort of story like Most Wanted. Had nothing. Was dissapointed.

21 - Prototype 2 - 74%
Nice graphics. Fun gameplay. Controls could have been better and its sometimes hard to follow the action. Story was interesting in the end.

20 - The Book of Unwritten Tales - 74%
Very good graphics. Likeable characters and very simple controls (that's a plus). Unfortunately the story led nowhere as the final chapter was very dissapointing. Many attempts at humor but most failed. Still OK.

19 - Alien: Isolation - 75%
A little bit like Alice in that it does nothing wrong except that it is a bit too long. Good graphics. Amazing sound. Ending a bit weird. Not as imbalanced as reviews said.

18 - Call of Juarez: Gunslinger - 75%
Short, simple but fun western shooter. Story was well told with all the sudden gameplay changes.

17 - Outlast: Whistleblower - 77%
Was as amazing as the original game. At many levels even sicker. Ending was better then the original. Could have been a bit longer but then I'd probably write the same I wrote about Alice and Alien.

16 - Watch Dogs - 78%
Wasn't as bad as I expected. Nice mix between Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and GTA. I left out all the side objectives though. Maybe that was the reason. Graphics could have been better. Choppy framerate at times. Driving physics could have been better... With such a big game there's a lot to nitpick so I'll just stop here.

15 - Injustice: Gods Among Us - 79%
Don't know the DC universe that well but it felt like a nice take on the comic characters. Story good enough. Fighting system very good. Graphics very nice.
14 - The Bureau: XCOM Declassified - 80%
In my opinion underrated. It was like a mini Mass Effect. Gameplay was almost the same as ME1. Story OK and got a bit crazy towards the end (dependign on the choices you make).

13 - Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - 81%
Hated the last one. CoD: AW is good because each level feels unique. More gameplay freedom than old CoD games but could use some more.

12 - Dishonored Addons - 82%
Nice set of new levels. Dishonored gameplay still feels fresh and open level design (shame on you Thief) feels very good. Graphics could use some better textures.

11 - Wolfenstein: The New Order - 83%
It's nothing special but there is almost nothing wrong with the game. Feels good, sounds good, has a good story and interesting setting. Two bad things: Visiting the main base between missions felt repetetiv and like work. Not enough interesting weapons.

10 - The Wolf Among Us - 84%
Extremely interesting setting, characters and storyline, but there could have been a bit more gameplay. Also some thigns that are unclear to me.

9 - Mortal Kombat - 85%
Oldschool gameplay with modern graphics and a story-mode. What more could you want?

8 - Far Cry 4 - 86%
Felt a lot like Far Cry 3. Lacked its memorable villain but made up for it with more interesting missions and vehicles.

7 - South Park: The Stick of Truth - 87%
I almost didn't stop laughing. Gameplay felt like a mini Final Fantasy game. A lot better then expected, even though a bit repetetive.

6 - Batman: Arkham Origins - 88%
A bit better story then the other Batman games. A bit worse in every other category. Still a great game.

5 - Darksiders 2 - 89%
New main character felt better with more moves and more ways to move around the environment. Nice item system and good graphics. Controls a bit overwhelming and story a bit confusing.

4 - Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls - 90%
Crusader isn't the best class but nice addition. New act is very good, second only to the first Act of Diablo 3. Finally some interesting stuff to do after reaching the maximum level.

3 - The Walking Dead: 400 Days + Season 2 - 91%
Very well written but not as good as Season 1. Characters not as interesting. Shouldn't have cut the gameplay. It made it feel too short. Still a great ride. 400 Days (Addon to Season 1) also extremely good.

2 - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim + Addons - 92%
Game I played a bit here and there over the years. Finally beat all main quest bosses. Nice world, a lot of stuff to do. Gameplay gets a bit repetetive after 40 hours and there is almost no interesting story.

1 - NBA 2K15 - 93%
High quality presentation. Extremely good graphics. Many interesting modes. Sloppy internet connection. Great game nontheless. I know people who aren't into basketball who praise it.

Happy new year!
